Biography
MzMedusa was raised southern Baptist but her awakening as a vampire came at a young age—an intuitive knowing that she walked between worlds. That truth shaped her life and led her on a path of magic and power. As a young person she struggled with her hunger but she learned to temper herself as she grew older and wiser.
MzMedusa is a High Priestess with over 40 years of experience in the craft. She was trained and initiated as a 3rd degree High Priestess in 1999 within the Living Tapestry Tradition, a lineage dedicated to training clergy by weaving together magic, wisdom, and service. She continues to serve her local community by leading public ritual, teaching classes and offering spiritual guidance through divination with tarot and tea leaves. As a professional tarot reader and ceremonialist, she helps others navigate their inner landscapes and awaken their own intuitive power. Her spiritual work is centered on transformation, embodiment, the reclamation of personal magic and honoring the sacred path entrusted to her.
As a Pagan chaplain at a university, she walks a sacred path between the academic and the arcane. Her role is to hold space for spiritual seekers of many paths, guiding students through cycles of self-discovery, ritual, and healing. Within the halls of learning, she offers grounding, counsel, and community—an anchor for those whose faith is rooted in earth, moon, and mystery.
Beyond the circle of campus, she serves the greater Rochester community as both a birth and death doula—standing at the sacred thresholds of life’s beginnings and endings. Her hands have held first breaths and last sighs, honoring each as a passage through the veil. In these liminal moments, she acts as witness, as guardian, and as gentle guide, ensuring that each soul is honored with reverence and deep presence. She has served as officiant for many funerals and weddings and was the officiant at two weddings featured in Rock and Roll Bride magazine.
In her persona as Granny Goth Rauncie she created the Rochester Vampire Ball, a gothic elegy born from grief and community resilience. Held in honor of a beloved soul who was taken too soon, the ball raises scholarship funds in their name. From this ritual of remembrance bloomed other events she presides over: the Krampus Ball, Monster Prom, and City of Dust, a monthly goth/industrial gathering where shadow and spirit dance as one. Each is a living spell—a celebration of dark beauty, survival, and sacred community.
She is the co-creator of the Rochester Erotic Arts Festival and a member of the Rochester RocDommes a group which is dedicated to the empowerment of powerful women and those who worship them.
Her path has been influenced by many amazing teachers. At the core of her beliefs is living sacred in a sacred world and the interconnectedness of all beings. She believes we are all divine beings and the choices we make have great impact on our world, each other and the future.
